Before and After School Media Center

If you ever forget the materials you need to do your homework at school, need extra time to work on an assignment, or need access to a computer you can go to the media center in the morning. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the Media Center opens at 8:00am just for you! You go to the front entrance of Julian in the morning and ask for a pass to the media center. Be sure to get there at 8:00am to ensure you will be allowed in because only 50 students are allowed to up every morning.

The media center is also open after school Monday to Thursday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for students to complete homework and use the computers.

Please see me if you have any questions about this.

Organizing Your Mathematics Binder

Ms. Koplin Team 6-3

It is very important that you have a binder for mathematics only. This will allow you to organize your math assignments and notes. You are expected to bring your binder to class each day. Your binder should be 1.5-2 inches and have 8 dividers that will be arranged in the following labeled sections.

Section 1: Homework

Your homework will usually come from your chapter Practice Packet, which will be stored in this section; however, homework may consist of a worksheet or problems from the textbook. YOU MUST NEATLY SHOW ALL OF YOUR WORK OR YOU WILL GET HALF CREDIT ON THE ASSISGNMENT! Homework will be completed in pencil and include a proper heading (Name, Date, Page #, Problems).

Section 2: Daily Warm Ups and Homework Quizzes (Warm-Ups)

This section will contain the warms ups and homework quizzes that are completed at the beginning of class. It is very important to label each accordingly.

Section 3: Notes

This section will hold all notes that you take during the year. You will also put handouts that include steps to complete problems and algorithms. In addition, each unit has many vocabulary words that are necessary to know in order to understand the mathematical concepts we cover. In order to learn these terms we will take vocabulary notes for most sections.

Section 4: Tests and Quizzes

This part of your binder will store your graded quick quizzes, quizzes, unit tests, retakes, and test corrections.

Section 5: Word Problems

We will work with word problems, extended responses, and short responses throughout the school year. You are expected to thoroughly explain how you solved extended response problems.

Section 6: Skill Work

Sometimes we spend class time reviewing skills you have studied in previous math classes to help you succeed with current concepts or develop new skills to assist you in standardized tests. You will store these handouts or notes in this section.

Section 7: Projects

All requirements, rubrics, and work for math projects should be stored in this section.

Section 8: Extra Loose-Leaf Paper

You will need a continuous supply of loose-leaf paper throughout the year. You will have some paper in each section and you will store your extra paper here. This way you can add more paper to each section as you need it.
